RESPECTFULLY, GET OFF MY BACK.

To Whom This May Concern:

Please accept this letter as my formal resignation, effective immediately.

This decision was not made lightly. While I appreciated the opportunity to put my skills to use, I felt I was not reaching my full potential as I was only utilized about 10–15% of the time. I couldn’t help but notice you required my services most on weekends or weeknights, which was not amenable to my work-life balance goals. There were stretches of time I would go without even hearing from you. I hope you can understand that I am looking for more predictability in my work schedule.

When I first started, I felt like the weight that was being put on my shoulders far exceeded what I was capable of handling at a given time. The job description mentioned being able to lift between 200–300 pounds, and I would highly recommend re-evaluating that estimate (I won’t name names) for the next prospective candidate to have a better understanding of expectations. But I never gave up - and for the perseverance I developed working for you, I am forever grateful. I am confident it will serve me well in my next endeavor.

Lastly, I unfortunately did not see any room for advancement, and I found myself craving a career path that would allow for professional growth. I sat by while other roles on the team were filled without the opportunity to be considered. And my responsibilities were redistributed to my fellow colleagues over the years, which is what ultimately led me to the decision that this position is no longer a fit.

I understand that I face a tough job market. My role is very niche and, as you know, not everyone has the budget or space to bring my role onto the team. I know my tenure here has prepared me for what comes next, and for that I cannot thank you enough.

If I can be of any assistance during the transition, please let me know. I apologize for not being able to give more notice; however, I am sure the coffee table, the couch, or a kitchen table chair will be more than able to absorb my responsibilities.

Sincerely,
ottoman
